Q.

How do I enter Telstra instalment receipts?

A.

This share must be created as an instalment receipt. Refer to the Procedures and Reference Manual or the help file for help on creating instalment receipts and payments.
  1. In the Definitions -->  Shares area create the share TLS. See above question for a discussion on shares and security codes. This is what is known as the Underlying Share.
  2. In the same area create a share TLSCB (TLSCA for Telstra 1) with the type of instalment receipt. The TLS share created above is entered on the Instalment Receipt tab.
  3. Enter the original purchase transaction for the instalments using the Transactions screen and Buy Shares button.
  4. You enter the instalment payment using Special Transactions --> Instalment Payment button. (See your reference manual Procedures Instalment Payments)

Q.

I am creating shares in the Definitions area. It asks me for a security code. What is the security code for a share?

A.

The ASX code for shares consists of a company code of three characters plus a security code of up to three additional characters. In the case of the ‘ordinary’ share for a listed company the security code is blank.

Example: Telstra Corporation.

TLS in the company code. TLS is the ASX code for Fully Paid Ordinary Share. The security code is blank.

TLSCA is the ASX code for Telstra Instalment Receipts. The security code in this case is CA.

Q. Why does the report Return on Investment show a loss?

A.

The return on investment is a real return adjusted for CPI. If the share is held for less than a year the figures may appear to be meaningless.

Q. How do I treat the change of  Boral to Origin Energy Limited?

A.

This example assumes you own 1000 Boral shares.
  1. Change the company code using the menu Tools --> Change Company Code. This changes all references from Boral to Origin Energy Limited. (See your reference manual Procedures Changing Company Code and Name. Only use this if it is a code change and not a takeover. See the notes on that page.)
  2. Change the number of shares from 1000 to 500 using Special Transactions --> Capital Reconstruction. (See your reference manual  Procedures Capital Reconstructions)

Enter -500 (minus 500) in the quantity field. This takes care of the doubling of cost base etc automatically when you sell the shares at some stage if the future.

  1. Perform the return of capital using Special Transactions --> Return of Capital. (See your reference manual Procedures Capital Returns)

Enter the $3.16 return price into the Share price box. 4. Enter the new 500 shares as a Buy transaction at $3.16.
